Description
During lockdown in Brussels, the 54+1 portraits book comes to life. The suggestion reaches me from Marrakesh (@nicxxxdesign), the Project (@meetmywilson) starts in Ibiza under the initiative of (@davidleppan). Daily at 5 pm, my virtual tribe starts stamping their feet, waiting for me to put together the portrait of the day. It takes me 5 to 15 minutes to dress up these quick scenes; a spontaneous act, a creative bubble, giving a sense of rhythm to my days.
I do 1, then 2, then 3 …
All the drawers of my desk and the cupboards in the kitchen are thoroughly searched. The slightest nail, toothpick, button or string becomes a piece of work. Any seasonal vegetables are sources of inexhaustible components.
These portraits cross seas and oceans … It is in Cali, Colombia, that they merge under the special eye of @anitacalerophotography and the photo- graphic hand of @haroldvalenciaph. Dashing, in high resolution, they are ready to enter the ‘real’ world. In Brussels, Franc’Pairon looks over their cradle. Her wise, cheerful and laughing eyes tidies them up, assembles them, lays them out and gives shape to their paper house.
54+1 portraits book by Valérie Barkowski is a limited edition of 250.
88 pages out of which there are 65 color plates. Color offset printed on Munken Pure paper, 300gr for the soft cover and 170gr for all pages. Linen thread bound.
In the 54+1 portraits a selection of 20 portraits is available in a limited signed edition of 7 original photographs.
